From coast to coast, Canada is a popular destination for travellers from around the world. From the great outdoors to sophisticated, friendly cities with excellent hotels, fine restaurants, theatres, art galleries and museums, Canada is a country for touring.

Canada is a friendly, safe and beautiful country - well worth a visit or two (or more as you will discover.) Despite the recent world events, tourists can still visit it with ease.

Here are a few points of information that may make your visit easier:

ENTERING AND LEAVING

Visas are not required for U.S. tourists entering Canada from the U.S. for stays up to 180 days. You will, however, need your U.S. passport Citizens entering Canada from other countries must have a valid passport. For more information, click here.

MONEY

All major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, etc) may be used in most establishments. (Scholefield House accepts VISA & Mastercard.)
As well, many automated teller machine (ATM) cards, such as those on the PLUS or CIRRUS system, can be used throughout Canada to obtain Canadian funds on your U.S. bank account.
Many shops and businesses will accept U.S. currency, but the rate of exchange may not be competitive. To find the current bank rate, click here

ELECTRICITY

Canada's electricity is 11 volts/60 cycle, the same as in the U.S. For visitors from Europe, you will need a convert for your appliances to work. Scholefield House does provide hair dryers in each room, and a kettle is available for guest.

METRIC MEASUREMENT

Canada uses the metric system, which many Americans may find confusing. For example, one liter is very slightly more than one quart (.2642 gallons) and 1 gallon is equal to 3.785 liters. For more information on many more metric equivalents, click here.

TAXES

When you stay, at Scholefield House, you do not have to pay the 10% Room Tax charged by most other establishments. There is a 6% GST federal tax applied to your account, as it is to everything you purchase.
